PHONICS: FIRST GROUP OF LETTER SOUNDS

This month we started learning Phonics for the first time, with the first group of letter sounds: a, s, t, i, n, p. We enjoyed it very much!

To learn Letter "a" sound we pretended to eat an APPLE. Then we listened to this song below and we did the action: "We had ants on our arms!"

To learn Letter "s" sound we pretended to be a SNAKE. We listened to the following song and we did the action: "Our arm was a snake!"

On the following video the pupils (4 years old) are singing the "s" song.

To learn Letter "t" sound we pretended to be a TIGER. Also we noticed that tennis started with "ttt" sound, so we sang this song about tennis and we did the action: "We played tennis!"

Here we can see the 4 years-old pupils singing the "t" song and doing the action of this sound.

To learn Letter "i" sound we pretended to be at an IGLOO, it was freezing cold there, we shivered a lot. Also we met Inky the mouse, who spread a bottle of ink all over a desk, making the mouse sound: "i, i, i". We pretended to have whiskers as mice have.

To learn Letter "n" sound we touched our NOSE. Also we realized that airplanes make this sound when they fly on the air, so we stretched our arms and we flew as this vehicle.

And finally for the Letter "p" sound we imagined that our index finger was a candle and we had to puff it out.

When we knew the letter sounds, we tried to recognize them playing with torches, we turned out the lights and we pointed to the specific sound that the teacher said, they were written on mini special whiteboards on the blackboard.  We enjoyed it very much!

To end the lesson, we wrote the letter sounds following the instructions of the teacher.  This is very important to be able in a future to identify sounds one by one in a world (segmenting), and then read a complete word (blending).

We hope to be able to read in English in a future!
